Warner Bros. Pictures final installment in the Harry Potter franchise managed the largest opening day in box office history with $92.1 million earned on Friday, followed that with $42.8 million on Saturday and another estimated $33.6 million on Sunday, making it's weekend gross the biggest in history with $168.5 million.
Film averaged a huge $38,526 per theater from 4,375 venues. IMAX accounted for $15.5 million in North America and a worldwide $23.5 million gross. Overseas, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 box office is also impressive, with over $157.5 million, bringing its worldwide pocket to over $326 million thus far.
Potter topped The Dark Knight's $$158.4 million opening weekend set on July 18th, 2008.
Second-placed Transformers: Dark of the Moon added another $21.25 million in its third weekend at play, making its total U.S. cume $302 million. Internationally, the Michael Bay film has accumulated
In third, Warner Bros. Pictures' Horrible Bosses comedy showed a mere 38% change in its sophomore weekend box office run, turning in $17.6 million from 3,134 venues. Total cume is $60 million for the film starring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx.
Fourth belongs to Sony's Kevin James and Rosario Dawson comedy Zookeeper which grossed $12.3 million in its second weekend run. Frank Coraci film showed a 39% change and has made around $42.3 million thus far.
Rounding off the top five films this weekend, Disney/Pixar's Cars 2 animated family adventure made pocketed another $8.3 million, making its North American gross over $165.3 million.
Other wide opener Winnie the Pooh finished in sixth place with $8 million earned.
Indie film-wise, Fox Searchlight Pictures' Snow Flower & The Secret Fan opened in 24 venues, grossing $135,619. IFC's Tabloid documentary earned $93,000 from 14 locations, Sony Pictures Classics' Life, Above All debuted in 5 theaters with $14,328 and IFC's Salvation Boulevard made $7,500 from 4 venues.
